ITS Technician II (Maintenance) (Finance)



TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is hiring a full-time ITS Maintenance Technician II to join our team in Tampa, FL.

Summary: The ITS Maintenance Technician II performs maintenance services on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Signal Systems across various FDOT, County, and City contracts. Responsibilities include installation, preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment such as traffic controllers, CCTV cameras, RF antennas, switches, fiber optic patch panels, cabling, terminal blocks, roadway signage, and lighting. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to determine effective maintenance solutions to ensure system efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Install, maintain, and repair network communications equipment, video surveillance systems, radio equipment, CCTV and Microwave Vehicle Detection System (MVDS) units, and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).
  • Respond to maintenance requests and system alarms within established timeframes.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and system issues.
  • Restore equipment to operational status promptly and safely.
  • Accurately report system status and maintenance activities.
  • Complete reports, logs, and shift-to-shift communications per company policies and procedures.
  • Safely locate underground utilities, including fiber optic, telecommunications, and electrical lines.
  • Manage spare equipment and parts inventory.
  • Conduct field testing of units and components.
  • Maintain electronic records of work orders.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school preferred.
  • Typically requires 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic networking.
  • Ability to safely operate aerial lifts and bucket trucks (40 ft. to 80 ft.).
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Must pass a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) background check.
  • Must successfully complete TransCore's background and drug screening process.
  • May be required to pass a State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) background check, depending on project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in the trade.
  • Effective communication skills to perform work assignments.
  • Experience with electrical wiring and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Desired Skills:
  • FDOT-approved Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to remain standing for extended periods and work at heights using ladders or scaffolding.
  • Work environments may include exposure to dust, dirt, heat, moisture, confined spaces, trenches, and other physically demanding conditions.
  • Must follow strict safety protocols to minimize risk of injury from electrical shock, falls, or cuts.
  • May be required to travel to job sites located up to 100 miles or more from the primary work location.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Visual requirements include the ability to see clearly at close and long distances, distinguish colors, have peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, with appropriate safety measures in place.
