Senior Development Manager (Finance)



Birch Family Services is a leading provider of education, employment, and community support services for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities and their families in New York City. The Senior Development Manager is a key member of the Development team, reporting directly to the Director of Development, and plays a critical role in supporting and driving the overall fundraising goals of Birch Family Services. This individual will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of development initiatives that include event management, donor engagement and stewardship, fundraising analytics, and individual and corporate giving.

Essential Functions:

The Senior Development Manager will be expected to perform the following:

Event Management

  • As project manager, provide leadership to the planning and execution of key fundraising events including the annual gala, golf classic and 5K run, and other donor engagement opportunities.

Partner with internal stakeholders, vendors, and volunteers to ensure successful event logistics and fundraising outcomes.

Donor Engagement & Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of individual and corporate donors; responsible for all phases of the donor cycle including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Support annual giving campaigns, including direct mail and digital/email fundraising campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development and executive leadership to support major gifts fundraising strategies.
  • Create and implement strategies for online giving, matching gifts, and peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns.
  • Expand the Empowerment Circle and Annual Report donor list annually.
  • Oversee department inbox and responded to donor inquiries and concerns, escalating as needed.

Development Operations & Analytics
  • Support the Development Coordinator in the management of the Salesforce database, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, gift processing, and donor acknowledgment. Oversee the tracking and reporting of fundraising performance metrics and projections.
  • Generate donor and fundraising reports, dashboards, and analytics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure integrity of donor records and confidentiality of information.
  • Collaborate with Birch's IT Department to support company-wide Salesforce technology integration.
  • Support the Development Director in the preparation of data analytics in a timely manner, while also proactively working with the staff to make them aware of the data resources available.
  • Generate trend reports that include raw data as well as analysis and interpretations to prepare the Development Director for presentations.
  • Analyze and compile metrics on fundraising efforts to share with Development Director.

Corporate Engagement
  • In collaboration with the Development Team and executive leadership, develop and implement strategies to expand corporate support, including sponsorships and employee giving programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners to align mutual goals, increase visibility, and revenue for the organization.
  • Serve as an advocate and ambassador to help to foster partnerships with Birch's New Frontier program.

Board & Volunteer Engagement

  • Mobilize board and volunteer involvement in fundraising and outreach initiatives.

Qualifications

Qualifying candidates should have the following:

Education

Bachelor's Degree in philanthropy, communication, marketing or related field.

Experience

Minimum 2 years experience in development.

Physical Demands

This position operates in a professional office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
