Regulatory Compliance Specialist I (Finance)

Minnesota Power is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Regulatory Compliance Specialist I to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the Company's compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements while contributing to the development and implementation of regulatory processes and filings. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regulatory Expertise: Maintain a broad and up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, focusing on state and federal regulatory agencies' policies and standards.
  • Regulatory Filings: Facilitate internal coordination among cross-functional teams to provide documentation required for regulatory compliance filings in the electric utility sector. Lead the preparation, review, and submission of regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Process Development: Assist in the development and implementation of regulatory compliance processes and procedures in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Discovery Management: Facilitate and maintain regulatory discovery processes for strategic dockets, including general rate cases and integrated resource plans.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, advocacy groups, and other utilities.
  • Policy Monitoring: Track and analyze regulatory changes and policies to assess their impact on the Company and identify priority compliance issues.
  • Communication: Communicate regulatory compliance requirements and Company positions effectively to internal and external audiences.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
    • Preferred majors include business administration, public administration, political science, law, accounting, finance, or energy policy.
    • Candidates completing their degree by June 30, 2025 will be considered.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • No experience required.
    • One year of professional experience in government, nonprofit, or corporate settings, or a similar level of experience working with regulations, policies, and compliance is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a broad knowledge of the energy industry, power system and related federal and state policy and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and proactive problem-solving.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to process large amounts of information and conduct effective research.
  • Self-driven with a demonstrated initiative and results-oriented mindset.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

BENEFITS:
  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $52,000 - $64,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
