Director of Medical 3D Visualization and Printing (Finance)

USF Health is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary individual to lead the 3D visualization and printing lab which serves to support the clinical and research mission for USF Heath and Tampa General Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and advance the integration of 3D printing and extended reality (XR) technologies into our clinical and research endeavors, with a focus on supporting perioperative and surgical planning. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader with a Ph.D. or M.D. and a passion for driving innovation in healthcare through 3D printing and XR applications.

Curriculum VitaeMinimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field (e.g., biomedical engineering, medical imaging, surgery,
etc.).

  • Proven track record of successful research and innovation in clinical 3D printing as well as experience with XR,
    with a strong publication record
  • Leadership experience in an academic or research setting, with the ability to manage interdisciplinary teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical imaging technologies, surgical workflows, and perioperative planning.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory standards and compliance in healthcare.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Lead and direct cutting-edge research initiatives leveraging 3D printing and extended reality (XR) technologies for applications such as patient-specific anatomical models, surgical guides, and custom implants.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, clinicians, and engineers to drive innovation in the field and contribute to academic publications and conferences.
  • Work closely with clinical departments to identify opportunities for integrating 3D printing and XR into perioperative and surgical planning processes.
  • Provide expertise in translating medical imaging data into 3D-printed models and XR that enhance preoperative understanding and optimize surgical outcomes.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Clinical 3D Printing Lab, ensuring adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Manage resources, including budget allocation, equipment acquisition, and maintenance, to support the lab's mission.
  • Foster collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, including other academic institutions, industry partners, and healthcare organizations, to enhance research opportunities and share best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between the 3D printing lab and clinical departments to ensure seamless integration and support for surgical planning.
  • Develop and implement educational programs to train healthcare professionals, residents, and researchers on the applications and benefits of 3D printing and XR in clinical settings.
  • Provide mentorship and support for students and fellows engaged in 3D printing research.
