Position Overview

Navarro is seeking a highly qualified Hazardous Waste Coordinator to support the Environmental Management Division (EMD) at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC). This role is responsible for managing regulated and controlled waste programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and supporting NASA's mission through safe and effective hazardous waste operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee hazardous waste management operations including waste characterization, profiling, storage, transportation, and disposal.
  • Maintain compliance with Large Quantity Generator (LQG) requirements and California-specific hazardous waste regulations.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports, manifests, and contingency plans.
  • Conduct inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas, PCB equipment, and TSCA-regulated zones.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain hazardous waste inventories, training records, and documentation in government-provided systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to waste generators and ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling practices.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Completion of at least four college-level chemistry courses.
  • At least 8 years of direct experience in hazardous waste management, including familiarity with local and state regulatory requirements.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Certification (40 CFR).
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification (29 CFR 1910.120).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a federal or NASA environment.
  • Strong understanding of California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and CUPA regulations.
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste tracking systems and electronic reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Compensation:

$85,000 - $120,000

In accordance with the Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc (Navarro) salary determination process, Navarro takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. A candidate's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
