Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a detail oriented, well organized, dependable Geologist, Environmental Engineer, or Environmental Scientist to join our firm in Wood River, IL. This full-time position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills. Arcadis' performance-based evaluations provide an opportunity for candidates to advance their career within the company. As an Arcadis employee, you will be working full-time and performing both office and field tasks at a large Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) project in Wood River, IL (outside St. Louis, MO).

While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 50%-70% of their time in the field. Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.

Role accountabilities:

As an environmental professional, you will be working both independently and with others performing fieldwork in all weather conditions which may include drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, excavation oversight, in-situ remediation, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys. Some of these tasks will require subcontractor oversight.

Extensive and detailed note taking is required along with coordination and communication with Project Managers (PMs) and other office staff. Additionally, you will assist PMs and Assistant PMs (APMs) with planning environmental investigation and remediation tasks, and assist with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memorandum. Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file review, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget, and establishment of subcontracts.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office-based software programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • USEPA and IEPA regulatory program experience

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $57,786-99,392. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
