Environmental Compliance Specialist (Scientist IV) (Biotech)



Primary Function: 

With minimal supervision, applies diversified principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. Makes independent decisions on scientific problems and methods. Performs as a fully-qualified professional proficient in the use and application of scientific principles, theories, practices and company standards in their discipline. May devise new approaches to problems encountered. Assignments may involve application of computer software, including spreadsheets, CAD, as well as computer modeling.

Primary Duties: 

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the scientific work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • May serve as team leader in medium projects and help coach and mentor junior level staff.
  • Applies a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of related specialties.
  • Performs scientific analyses on scientific projects of own discipline.
  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluation, plan and permit projects.
  • Prepares and checks computations (appropriate to discipline).
  • Uses technical software and equipment to prepare documents.
  • Leads or assists in the preparation or modification of reports, studies and permits.
  • May attends on and offsite client meetings.
  • May provide technical guidance and/or oversee work performed by lower level scientists; may have supervisory responsibility for technicians and/or entry professional staff.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

Normally requires a 4-year degree in biology, environmental science, geology or related science and typically 5-8 years' related experience, or a Masters degree and 4 years' experience. This includes proficiency in utilizing technical software and computers related to the discipline. May specialize in environmental science, air quality, GIS (Global Information Systems), geology, or hydrogeology.
