Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Process Safety Management (PSM) Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of process safety and regulatory compliance related to ammonia and other covered processes at Sustainable Beef. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the facilitys PSM program in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations.
As a leader in this role, you will collaborate across departmentsespecially with the Ammonia and Refrigeration Superintendentto ensure safe system operation, continuous compliance with federal and Nebraska environmental regulations, and timely completion of Tier II reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to process safety and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the facilitys Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs.Serve as the subject matter expert for all PSM elements including process hazard analysis (PHA), mechanical integrity, operating procedures, and emergency planning and response.Maintain compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, and Nebraska state regulations related to ammonia refrigeration and chemical process safety.Collaborate with and support the Ammonia and Refrigeration Superintendent to ensure safe operation of ammonia systems, environmental compliance, and fulfillment of state and federal reporting requirements.Prepare and submit Tier II reports and ensure all hazardous chemical inventory and documentation remains accurate and up to date.Coordinate and lead PHAs, compliance audits, incident investigations, and management of change (MOC) processes.Ensure timely documentation, follow-up, and closure of action items related to PSM activities.Develop and maintain ammonia-specific training materials and ensure employees receive required PSM-related training.Oversee contractor safety and ensure third-party vendors follow all PSM/RMP requirements.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including P&IDs, operating procedures, training logs, and safety data sheets (SDS).Conduct regular audits and inspections of the ammonia system and ensure mechanical integrity program is followed.Act as the facilitys primary contact for regulatory agencies related to PSM/RMP and environmental reporting compliance.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Chemical Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.Minimum of 5 years of experience managing or supporting PSM/RMP programs, preferably in food processing, industrial refrigeration, or chemical operations.Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 (PSM), EPA 40 CFR Part 68 (RMP), and environmental reporting requirements such as Tier II.Technical knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to lead PHAs, incident investigations, and MOC processes.Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and PSM-related software systems.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to effectively communicate and train across all levels of the organization.
