Position Overview
We are actively seeking a talented safety-minded individual to join our team as a Plant Maintenance Apprentice.At Preferred Materials, we have a strong interest and value in a safety culture and doing things safe is always at our forefront. This position performs the duties of maintenance around our plants by completing a variety of maintenance, repair and construction functions. Candidates must be a self-starter, be mechanically inclined, and have the willingness to learn and be taught.
Essential Duties
- Visually inspect machines and equipment and locate causes of malfunctions
- Perform diagnostics, trouble shoot, and repair equipment as needed
- Perform operations on machines shop equipment such as grinders, ban saws, cut off saws, drill press, forklifts, welders, cranes, etc.
- Install and/or assemble machinery and equipment according to blueprints and other drawings
- Work in all areas of the plant using the appropriate PPE at all times
- Must possess a professional attitude while interacting with peers
Job Knowledge
- General knowledge and understanding of electrical components and equipment
- Knowledge or experience with plumbing and welding a plus
- Understanding and knowledge of basic computer skills
- Understanding of hot works, torching, confined space, and structural integrity
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a trade school program in electrical, plumbing or welding preferred
- Prior experience working in preventative maintenance highly desired
- Experience working with and troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic switches and systems is ideal
- Must be able to work flexible hours (days, nights, and weekends as needed)
- Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and have the ability to identify and complete necessary tasks with little to no supervision, ensuring equipment and facilities remain in top condition.
