Parents for Parents Advocate (Personal Services)



The individual in the Parents for Parents Advocate position provides outreach, education and support to parents who have recently become engaged with Child Protective Services (CPS). Individuals in this position are able to support parents in navigating the child welfare system based on their own lived experience of successful reunification of their children.

Typical Work

Supports Community House on Broadway parents who have become engaged with CPS, navigate the child welfare system through early engagement and education;

Works closely with parents to understand their unique case and discuss steps to meet reunification goals;

Attends and provides support during parents at court hearings or other key events involving their case;

Participates in wraparound meetings with the residents care team;

Maintains appropriate documentation on parents progress and services provided;

Educates parents about relevant systems, policies, available services and advocacy techniques based on their own experience;

Identifying and referring parents to appropriate community services, support groups and professional assistance;

Validates experiences and shares coping strategies with parents engaged with the child welfare system;

Complies with all HIPAA and 42 CFR privacy and security regulations;

Performs other work as required.



Qualifications

Experienced an open case with Child Protective Services (CPS) and successful reunification of children;

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in both group and individual settings;

Ability to work in a team based environment;

Knowledgeable in HIPAA and 42 CFR regulations;

Implement quality process initiatives by utilizing tools to ensure customer satisfaction;

Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with customers, peers, management, partners, community based organizations, private employers, and other state & public agencies;

Performs computer applications & internet operations;

Ability to sit at a computer for prolonged periods of time;

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at a time;

Works in a fast paced environment demonstrating flexibility and ability to adapt to change; and,

Recruits & engages customers into a system that provides a multitude of services to meet their needs.
