Chief of Staff - Research (Project Management)

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a dedicated Chief of Staff to join the senior leadership team in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships. This pivotal role will serve as a key advisor and operational leader, working closely with senior research leadership to drive the division's mission forward. The Chief of Staff will play a central role in aligning resources, managing priorities, and fostering cross-functional collaboration across the university's research enterprise. With a focus on strategic execution, communication, and stakeholder engagement, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of research and innovation at OU.

 Typical Functions May Include:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of coordination for senior research leadership, managing schedules, priorities, and follow-up actions to ensure efficient operations across the research enterprise
  • Manage the intake, delegation, and resolution of high-priority requests and initiatives, ensuring timely responses and clear accountability
  • Oversee the flow of information and support daily office operations with professionalism, discretion, and a strong sense of urgency
  • Prepare executive-level briefings, correspondence, reports, and meeting materials on behalf of research leadership

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND: 

  • 7 years of experience in research administration, strategic operations, higher education administration, consulting, or a related field. 

Advertised Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively. May be required to bend, lift, stoop, and carry. Occasional extended hours may be required to support the executive, meetings, travel coordination, urgent matters, or other activities. Occasional travel or off-site support may be required for meetings, events, or executive retreats. 

Department Preferences:

  • University of Oklahoma (Norman Campus or Health Sciences Campus) experience
  • Experience in working with federal funding
