Senior Program Manager - Pediatrics Neonatology (Finance)



The UTH NICU follow-up program provides world-class care following discharge from neonatal intensive care and has been recognized for its service to families and children by the State of Texas. As part of its mission, the clinic works closely with neonatologists at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and with the NICHD Neonatal Research Network to conduct research to improve the lives of infants and families using innovative treatments.

The Senior Program Manager will oversee the improvement and functioning of the follow-up care system for NICU infants. They will work with all the stakeholders from various departments and specialties in the hospital and in the outpatient clinics to ensure relationship-building with the family, parental education, discharge planning, appointment scheduling, patient navigation of the health system following discharge, removing barriers to follow-up, and helping families overcome barriers to health care. The Senior Program Manager will have to facilitate building a data collection system to track the performance of the follow-up program and the outcomes of the infants and families. Most importantly, for infants enrolled in research and in other high-priority clinical programs, the Senior Program Manager will have to ensure a high follow-up rate, ensure that follow-up procedures are completed optimally, and ensure complete research data collection on these infants. The Senior Program Manager will also facilitate learning opportunities for medical students and trainees about neonatal follow-up.

Position Summary:

Develops, plans and manages all activities of a school/unit program(s) or project(s). Functions in a Leadership capacity in the program.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Oversees all aspects of the program/project activities. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors project progress. Provides direction and guidance to department personnel.

2. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols and policies and develops, implements, and manages internal policies and procedures.

3. Manages compliance and ensures the department follows internal and external rules, regulations and standards. Oversees inspections and/or reviews and ensures the appropriate personnel have the proper credentials and licensing needed.

4. Manages/maintains annual budget, negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and/or authorizes expenditures.

5. Provides guidance to upper management and keeps them informed of key activities and makes periodic progress reports.

6. Manages partnerships with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.

7. Prepares progress reports and grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. May work closely with Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants.

8. Interacts with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects.

9. Working in conjunction with Public Affairs, may create and edit various communications materials for the department/program, which may include printed materials, web site content and/or department newsletters.

10. Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes oral presentations at professional meetings.

11. Manages Human Resources activities for direct report in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and terminating, training and development, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

12. Other duties as assigned.

The role will require strong technical skills such as use of the electronic medical record (EPIC), data collection, data analytics, process improvement, project management and health system navigation. It will also require strong relational and leadership skills to interact with the infant's family and with various health professionals from multiple disciplines, some who are employed by the hospital (MH) and some by the medical school (UTP).

Certification/Skills:

May require program-specific certifications.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

Seven (7) years of applicable experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
