Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing a range of patron services through the Library's Outreach program. This includes preparing the Bookmobile (BKM) for its scheduled route, driving the vehicle, and providing circulation services at various locations across Lackawanna County. The position integrates circulation tasks with the vehicle's physical operations. Additionally, the employee is responsible for maintenance of the vehicle. The schedule is 35 hours a week and may include some nights and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Drives the BKM to and from designated stops per schedule developed by Manager.
Provides a range of Circulation Services, including but not limited to:

Issuing library cards.
Checking materials in and out.
Promoting LCLS library events by handing out flyers and brochures to patrons.
Shelving returned library items.
Assisting patrons in requesting library materials.
Helping patrons locate library materials within the BKM.

Transport and distribute materials to and from the BKM as necessary.
Assists with the rotation of BKM inventory.
Loads and unloads the vehicle.
Assists patrons with accessing the Bookmobile.
Manages preventive maintenance for the BKM, which includes diagnosing mechanical issues, scheduling repairs and preventative maintenance, informing manager of budgetary and service impacts, and keeping a log.
Maintains accurate statistics following established library procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

Work experience driving a large vehicle required.
Have and maintain a valid PA Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Familiarity with and use of computers is essential.
Must be flexible, able to multi-task.
Ability to serve patrons in a calm and friendly manner.
Must be reliable and punctual.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.


Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Ability to stand or sit for several hours.
Frequently required to lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Physical and manual dexterity sufficient to safely operate a 22' (plus cab) vehicle and perform other required tasks.
Ability to listen and clearly communicate with patrons in person and on the telephone.
The employee is often exposed to outside weather conditions. While the vehicle is climate controlled, inherent limitations exist which can cause discomfort. In addition, exposure also occurs while preparing for the run (loading and unloading) and during site setup.
