Environmental Co-op (Engineering)
Environmental Co-op
The Environmental Co-op is a co-operative learning experience designed for students pursuing a Laboratory-Science curriculum, specifically in the Environmental or Wastewater Treatment areas. This role is integral to supporting the critical water system balance needs and Environmental Management System initiatives at our Menasha, Wisconsin Paper Mill facility.
About the Role
The Environmental Co-op will collaborate closely with operators, Environmental Engineers, and other operations leaders to support sustainability initiatives and daily water system data collection necessary for efficient operations. This role is essential in ensuring that our facility operates smoothly and sustainably, contributing to our overall environmental goals.
We are looking for individuals who embody our core values, are unafraid to challenge the status quo, innovate, experiment, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our products and ourselves. If this is you, we'd love to talk.
What You Will Do
As an Environmental Co-op, your responsibilities will include:
Data Collection and Testing: You will collect data and perform tests on various water systems, including final effluent, solid, and in-process waste streams. This data is crucial for monitoring and maintaining the health of our water systems.
Trend Analysis: You will perform trend analysis on the collected data to understand and predict system health and stability. This analysis helps in making informed decisions about system operations and improvements.
Identifying Improvement Opportunities: You will work with Engineers, Utilities, and the Environmental Team to identify opportunities for improvement. Using the scientific method, you will develop and conduct trials to test these improvements.
Waste Audits and Documentation: Conducting waste audits and completing environmental documentation will be part of your role. You will follow through on improvement initiatives in alignment with ISO 14001 standards, ensuring our operations meet high environmental standards.
Lab Equipment Maintenance: You will be responsible for maintaining the main lab equipment and supplies, ensuring that everything is in good working order for accurate testing and data collection.
Safety Initiatives: Supporting site safety initiatives is a key part of your role. You will help ensure that all safety protocols are followed and contribute to a safe working environment.
Who You Are
We are seeking an undergraduate college student enrolled in a four-year Engineering or Environmental Science program. Ideal candidates will be studying Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related lab sciences. You must be able to work a 40-hour-per-week position on-site from June to January 2025.
What We Can Offer You
We offer a competitive hourly wage of $21-24, with the possibility of a housing stipend.
Our culture is collaborative and caring, with a focus on empowerment and engaged people. You will have the opportunity to work with impact and a powerful purpose, contributing to sustainable value together. We prioritize health and safety, innovation, and sustainable working life. We also offer a total rewards package that includes individual learning and career growth opportunities.
