JOB SUMMARY:

Manage Power Systems' projects after the sale has been closed through final completion. Manage procurement and execution through organized communication, scheduling and instructions. Prevent cost overrun and maintain the profit level projected for the project. Coordinate activities of Power Systems' departments and vendors involved in procurement, handling, assembly, fabrication, testing, delivery, invoicing, installation and start up of projects. Ensure accuracy, with assistance as appropriate, of all design-engineering specifications for allied equipment, procurement of allied products, accuracy of drawings, and assembly instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews customer specifications, proposal, and Bill of Materials to thoroughly understand the sales project details and to ensure all required information is present. Recommends changes, additions or deletions to satisfy customer requirements while maximizing project profitability.
  • Creates, maintains, and completes electronic project record using internal Project Management software. Ensures that all important documentation and conversations related to the project are captured within the project record.
  • Prepares Caterpillar engine orders for transmission to CAT or identifies the inventory unit which will fill the project engine requirements. Maintains communications with Sales Coordinator regarding engine order acceptance, any order problems, RTS, and scheduled arrival.
  • Prepares Bill of Materials, purchase specifications, RFQs (Requests for Quote) and creates/issues Purchase Orders for all allied equipment required to outfit the engines to meet customer specifications.
  • Prepares any and all necessary project timelines to establish material ordering, receiving, assembly, testing and delivery deadlines.
  • Ensures Commercial Engineer prepares all required project submittals of equipment, as required by specification, to submit to customer/engineer for equipment approval. Assists in preparation of all necessary drawings, wiring diagrams, etc. for including in submittals. Obtains necessary allied/vendor cut sheets, drawings and diagrams, as necessary for submittal.
  • Prepares and issues Service Instructions document for use by Service and Parts Departments. Provides all of the background and ambient application information, equipment application and configuration details of engine as ordered. Includes all assembly instructions for adding to or reconfiguring the engine for the application. Provides all necessary supporting documentation, drawings, copy of specification. Manages internal costs and review internal work orders for adherence to agreed upon costs.
  • Acts as liaison to Engine Inventory Administrator for purposes of maintaining inventory and for preparing all customer invoices. Prepares all required Invoicing Cost Estimates at time of delivery to ensure project gross profit accuracy at time of customer invoice and communicate to Engine Inventory Administrator.
  • Negotiates project additions for any equipment or installation service requirement, as necessary, which is not a part of the original specification or bid quotation.
  • Ensures all as-built project drawings, as required per specifications and installation requirements, are completed by Commercial Engineer at completion of project and are provided to customer.
  • Identifies, communicates and ensures credit of all engine discount programs (CAT or Empire).
  • Create an environment of ownership and personal accountability where each person is responsible and accountable for their performance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Construction Project Manager in completion of onsite work and coordination of service/contractor personnel.
  • Maintains a high level of organization at all times, especially in relation to paperwork, information and products.
  • Attends sales and project meetings as scheduled by supervisor.
  • Reviews Account Managers' quotes and Bill of Materials to help ensure compliance with specifications and requirements.
  • Assists Commercial Engineer in completion of all required submittal or Operation & Maintenance documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Commercial Engine Operations Manager.
  • Works within and promotes corporate values.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of power generation equipment and its applications, including commercial, industrial and marine engine and gensets.
  • Must be willing and able to take initiative and control in an effort to protect the interests of Empire and our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to continually learn new products, features, maintenance and installation of equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout Empire territory and stay overnight when required.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical and architectural engineering drawings.
  • High degree of time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities and projects at once.
  • High degree of communication and interpersonal skills to work with customers, vendors, and influence others.
  • Some degree of technical competency in electrical and mechanical applications. Ability to understand electrical and mechanical concepts.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical), Business Administration (Supply Chain, Operations Management) or similar field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience may be substituted for college degree.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in managing multiple complex projects at same time.
  • Proof of current valid CDL if required by position.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
