WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Product Engineer on the Solutions Management team, you'll be instrumental in guiding product development and managing our solution portfolio, ensuring our offerings align with customer and market demands.

As part of our Product Development team, the Product Engineer for Digital Solutions and Voice & Communications is a highly technical role focusing on the engineering and delivery of our digital communication products and unified communications services. This hybrid position requires expertise in Agile development and quality assurance, combined with deep knowledge digital solutions and voice and collaboration technologies. The engineer will work on innovative communication solutions, from voice platforms to digital applications, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and customer-centric. As part of the Solutions Management team and reporting to the Head of Product, this role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, engineering excellence, and continuous innovation in the digital and UCaaS space.

Product Focus Area: Digital, Voice & Communications Solutions

Major duties and responsibilities:

Solution Design & Integration:

  • Design, develop, and implement new features for digital platforms and voice/UCaaS solutions, ensuring high quality, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with product managers and fellow engineers to translate user and business requirements into technical specifications and architecture for communication services.
  • Use Agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence) to plan and track development work, actively participating in sprint ceremonies and team collaborations.
  • Develop and execute test plans with QA teams, utilizing automated testing tools and frameworks to ensure voice and digital solution features meet rigorous quality standards.
  • Integrate and work with communication protocols and platforms such as WebRTC, SIP, and APIs from providers like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Twilio to enhance our product offerings.

Testing & Validation:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate the functionality, performance, and security of our solutions.
  • Identify and document defects and work with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Perform load testing and performance optimization to ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Ensure solutions meet all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for our solutions, including design specifications, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training materials to internal teams and clients.
  • Share your knowledge and expertise with other team members.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in the managed services industry and across the technology landscape.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the performance, reliability, and security of our solutions.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies to enhance our service offerings.
  • Participate in proof-of-concept testing and pilot deployments of new technologies.
  • Work closely with network and DevOps teams to ensure that digital and voice services are deployable, scalable, and maintain strong uptime and performance metrics.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in unified communications, digital collaboration tools, and customer experience, and apply this knowledge to drive product innovation.
  • Provide engineering support during product launches and operations, troubleshooting complex issues in voice and digital platforms to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and customer-focus within the engineering team by mentoring junior engineers and sharing best practices in software and telecom development.

Agile Participation:

  • Actively lead and participate in Agile workstreams to ensure alignment with team goals and efficient execution.
  • Collaborate with product managers to define requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide technical feedback and insights during sprint planning and reviews.
  • Service as technical liaison between internal stakeholders and boundary partners

WHO YOU ARE

To perform this role successfully, the Product Engineer must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, education, and overall experience required for the role.  

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in a software or product engineering role, with significant experience in digital solutions, telecommunications, VoIP/UCaaS, or digital communication platforms.
  • Strong experience working in Agile development teams and familiarity with tools like Jira and Confluence; hands-on experience with QA/testing practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of voice and video communication technologies and protocols (e.g., SIP, WebRTC) and experience with platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Twilio, or similar.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, Java, or relevant languages) and understanding of cloud-based communication services and APIs.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and infrastructure that support UCaaS (bandwidth, QoS, security) and experience working with related hardware or cloud services.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and solve complex technical problems, particularly in delivering new digital features or improving call quality and reliability.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, contributing to design discussions and code reviews.
  • A strong customer-centric approach to engineering, ensuring that solutions are built with user experience and satisfaction in mind.

Preferred Certifications

  • Technical Certifications: Fortinet, Cisco, CradlePoint, Google, AWS, Azure, CISSP,
  • ITIL Foundation, PMP, CAPM
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent
