Position Summary

Under a moderate level of supervision, builds small, encapsulated pieces of code/configuration based on technical designs, patterns, standards, and best practices that are provided to the individual.

The work is limited in complexity and impact.

What You'll Do:
This opportunity is for an IT Senior Programmer to participate in the technical development effort for Erie Family Life initiatives. Currently, work is focused on the Erie Family Life technology platform framework re-structuring which will optimize agent and customer utilization. This program is transitioning Erie's Life products to both new front-end and back-end modern technical platforms. Development will be performed with a moderate level of supervision within an agile environment.

  • Development of clean and efficient code aligned to provided technical design with close support from a software engineer
  • Performs as an individual contributor on a project team or support team with mentorship and oversight
  • Runs software unit tests to spot and resolve bugs and inconsistencies.
  • Troubleshoots defects and provides code fixes with mentorship and oversight.
  • Writes and continually updates documentation for all work done as reference for future maintenance.
  • Communicates effectively with other SCRUM team members.
  • May coach/mentor junior programmers.
  • Develops intermediate level expertise in one technology or application.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Prior software development experience and technology implementation experience preferred.
  • Collaborates and practices within agile processes, scrum teams, and knowledge of related IT disciplines required.
  • Ability to successfully align conceptual approach to technical design required.
  • Insurance industry knowledge preferred.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Mendix (preferred)
    • Python
    • Java
    • HTML
    • SQL
    • .NET
    • Systems integration

  • Demonstrated technical competency to ensure successful outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT, MIS, Business or related field plus 2 years related experience.
  • Associate's degree in technical field plus four years' related experience and completion of a relevant IT-career preparation program approved by ERIE's Human Resources and IT Talent Optimization Departments if unrelated degree.
  • High School diploma plus 6 years' related experience and completion of a relevant IT-career preparation program approved by ERIE's Human Resources and IT Talent Optimization Departments if unrelated degree.
