Systems Administrator I (Finance)



Position Summary:

The Systems Administrator I (SA) coordinates all IT supported computing needs for the USF Athletic Department (ATH). This role provides face-to-face support, including setup and troubleshooting of standard IT equipment in department educational spaces, offices, and various locations specific to ATH. The SA's responsibilities include configuring printing and scanning devices, addressing networking and security issues, and delivering technical assistance during college events. They manage user accounts, resolve technical problems, evaluate system performance, and implement improvements when possible. The SA also advises on hardware and software purchasing decisions, following Information Technology policies and guidelines when recommending and purchasing equipment that supports the Athletic mission. Additionally, they must implement IT rules and policies when suggesting procedural improvements for their areas of responsibility. For any non-standard equipment or software not officially supported by IT, the SA is expected to provide best-effort support.

High School Diploma or Equivalent and IT certification OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1-year relevant work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training.

Preferred Education/Experience:

Experience working in Higher Education environment; Experience working in Intercollegiate Athletics environment.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.

  • Serve as the principal point of technical and operating support with respect to Information Technology. Implement hardware and software support, system access, user training, problem analysis and resolution, and other Information Technology requirements needed by ATH. Be on-site daily to provide IT support to ATH personnel and other IT team members. Communication via in-person interactions, phone, remote support software, and chat/instant messaging applications will be necessary.
  • Oversee and coordinate the implementation of projects involving installation, repair, relocation and/or upgrade of standard IT hardware and/or software. Assist with upgrades, repairs and modifications of the same to the departments technical infrastructure. Perform general maintenance tasks on standard IT computers, laptops, printers and any other authorized peripheral equipment used by ATH personnel (faculty, staff, student workers and students). Provide support and troubleshooting assistance for standard IT Mac and Windows computers.
  • Following IT guidelines and policies, recommend purchasing of and overseeing the installing of new hardware and software. The SA should coordinate setting up new users, should troubleshoot various end-user problems and provide basic support for all educational spaces as well as support for other departmental technology needs (e.g. faculty, coach and student presentations). Operate, test equipment to locate problems. Maintain department Inventory Management Systems and update as necessary.
  • Provide support for IT approved specialized equipment and software unique to the department. Provide technical support for departmental events. For non-standard and non-approved hardware/software the SA is expected to provide best effort support including working with outside vendors to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide user education about IT best practices. Recommend standard operating documents including processes and procedures.
