The Principal, Sales & Use Tax will be responsible for the North American (US & Canada) Sales Tax Compliance monthly cycle as well as managing the sales tax exemption process. Reconciliation and journal entry preparation required. The Principal, Sales & Use Tax will assist the tax department with other support services as needed.

Essential Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the North America Sales & Use Tax function, including oversee preparation and tax return filings, and reconciliation of Tax information for outside compliance vendor.
  • Advise on the tax implications of business operations, transactions, and new product/service launches.
  • Own and manage Tax Exemption Processing and sales tax cancellation requests.
  • Oversee the maintenance in tax accounts, balances and related reconciliations.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with various accounting personnel to gather information and provide advisory services to enquiries from both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments and assess their impact relevant to D&B (tax rate changes and other rule changes).
  • Oversee the tax audits process, collaborate with auditors and other tax team members.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior tax professionals and cross-functional teams.
  • Own and manage the Canada Corporate Income Tax Filing, including oversee preparation and tax return filings and reconciliation on Tax information for outside compliance vendor.
  • Essential Skills and/or Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in North America indirect tax, with a focus on sales and use tax.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state sales tax laws and regulations.
  • Workday accounting software experience preferred.
  • Collaborator with effective communication (both written & verbal) and presentation skills to interface with other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills, detailed-oriented.
  • Experience with tax automation tools (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE) preferred.
  • Ability to manage confidential company data with discretion, following company policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite skills.
