Technical Director - Coil Coatings (Manufacturing)



Job Summary

The Technical Director, Coil Coatings, will lead and oversee all technical aspects of our coil coating operations for our metal service center locations. This position will serve as the key technical authority on coil coating processes, product quality, troubleshooting, and process optimization. This is a fully remote position. The ideal candidate should have access to a major airport for traveling to any of our U.S. branch locations.

Job Responsibilities   

  • Lead the technical operations of the coil coating line, including process parameters, coating quality, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for coating applications and line operations.
  • Oversee lab testing, trial runs, and process validations for new materials.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and environmental regulations.
  • Work closely with QA to investigate customer complaints and internal defects, performing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Act as a technical liaison between the coater and sales regarding coil coating specifications, performance expectations, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with sales, production, maintenance, and R&D teams to develop and implement new products and coatings.
  • Lead technical projects involving new product development and/or process changes.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance for sales and operations. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of direct experience working with coil coaters in a technical or operations role, preferably in a metal service center or coil coating facility.
  • A strong background in metallurgy or materials engineering. 
  • Strong understanding of coil coating equipment, chemistry, line troubleshooting, and product applications.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, ASTM specifications, and environmental regulations relevant to coil coating.
