Safe Harbor Vineyard Haven and Edgartown are located on the island of Martha's Vineyard. We offer the island's only Concierge rack service, protected heated indoor storage, seasonal slips and moorings. As a Yamaha and Mercury dealer as well as Garmin, Powerpole, NMEA, Venture Trailers, Seakeeper, we able to service the widest range of vessels on the island. We handle all services in house, from basic mechanical to full refits, electronics, repowers, and fiberglass and basic paint.

This position supports the full operation at Safe Harbor Vineyard Haven, including operating our marine forklift, blocking boats, washing boats, buffing and waxing, handling member fueling, and dockside requests, cleaning the yard and much more. This is an excellent opportunity for those with some basic marine experience or those experience in the industry to get their hands on the entire range of tasks the business has to offer and become more nimble as an employee. The Yard Hand is responsible for assisting with carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve the service department objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Haul, block and launch boatsPerform general boat maintenance and service work to include, but not limited to: waxing, bottom painting and zinc replacementWork closely with the Yard Foreman and assist fellow crewmembers as neededOperate yard machinery including 75-Ton Travelift, 35-Ton hydraulic trailer, forklift, power washer, etc.Grounds maintenance and marina cleanlinessAvailability to work overtime when requiredCarry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related trainingWear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work areaReport all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately

Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious marina experience preferredHeavy forklift experience a plusAbility to ascend and descend a ladderAbility to work in all weather conditionsAbility to work in confined spacesAbility to lift 50 poundsBasic boat handling skills a plus
