Mechanical Design Engineer (Finance)



Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Reports to: Engineering Manager

Position Overview
Performs a variety of engineering work in planning and design of products, tools, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment and mechanical industrial processes. Works with other engineering disciplines in developments to increase production quality, efficiency, or volume. Defines, documents, analyzes, performs, and interprets developmental tests for new and/or modified products or product components. Investigates and resolves operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical personnel. Provides technical support and advice to distributors, architects, the production floor and other engineering groups. Acts as liaison with outside suppliers in establishing or modifying specifications for purchased items. Devises and applies testing procedures for parts or sub-assemblies received from outside vendors. Participates in the development, maintenance and refinement of internal quality control and reliability programs.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

None required. Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.

Education & Experience

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 5 years of experience, or a master's degree with 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a construction-related industry.

Work Environment

Office and production floor settings. Interaction with vendors, distributors, and field personnel.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Use of standard office equipment (PC, printer, copier, etc.).

  • Use of power tools, drill presses, hand tools, and precision instruments.

  • Ability to work long hours when necessary.

  • Visual acuity for design and documentation tasks.

  • Clear verbal and written communication required.

Travel Required:

Domestic Travel Required: Must be able to travel occasionally (less than 15%).

International Travel Required: No

  • Manage product testing for special applications, including coordination with vendors.

  • Perform life cycle testing on cost-reduction materials to verify compliance with specifications.

  • Compile technical data for Distributors' project submittals.

  • Support and resolve engineering-related production issues.

  • Liaise with suppliers to define or update specifications for purchased components.

  • Create project scope, budget, and timelines for assigned projects.

  • Coordinate with certification bodies (e.g. UL) for product approvals.

  • Perform structural calculations as needed for project submittals.

  • Clarify code and technical requirements for Distributors.

  • Redesign products for custom applications or functions.

  • Troubleshoot and support technical field issues.

  • Respond to architect and distributor inquiries on product capabilities.
