[2025-2026] Community and Advancement Intern (Finance)



KIPP Capital Region is a part of a national network of high-performing public Charter Schools committed to creating joyful, academically excellent, and prepared students with the skills, ability, and confidence to pursue their paths to college, career, and beyond.

With the Troy Prep K-12 schools joining the KIPP Capital Region network for the 2022-2023 school year, our KIPP schools will serve more than 2,500 students across the Capital Region. Position Overview
The Family, Community, and Advancement Intern will support KIPP Capital Region's efforts in family engagement, community partnerships, and fundraising/marketing initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience in community relations, event coordination, and nonprofit advancement work. The intern will assist with projects, shadow team members, and gain exposure to strategies that build strong relationships with families, community organizations, and donors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Family Engagement Support
  • Assist in coordinating family engagement activities, such as events, meetings, and school-based programs.
  • Help maintain contact lists, event attendance records, and feedback survey data.
  • Support communication efforts with families, including drafting newsletters, social media posts, and informational materials.
  • Shadow team members in family meetings to learn best practices in relationship building.

Community Partnerships Support
  • Assist with researching local community organizations, events, and potential partnership opportunities.
  • Assist with logistics for KIPP's participation in community events, including setup and event-day support.
  • Help prepare materials for presentations, outreach, and advocacy activities.

Fundraising & Development Assistance
  • Support donor stewardship activities such as thank-you letters, updates, and event invitations.
  • Assist in tracking donor information in the fundraising database.
  • Help with grant research and preparation of background materials for proposals.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for fundraising campaigns and events.

Marketing & Communications Assistance
  • Assist with developing social media content and event promotion materials.
  • Support the creation of flyers, graphics, and donor stories in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Maintain a library of photos, videos, and success stories for use in communications.

General Administrative Support
  • Attend meetings and take notes to support follow-up actions.
  • Organize files, update spreadsheets, and assist with project tracking.
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the Director of Family, Community, and Advancement.

  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and current enrollment in an Associate, Bachelor, or Masters program at an accredited College or University required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
  • Interest in education, nonprofit work, community engagement, marketing, development, or related fields.
  • Open to an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students, families, and educators.
  • The internship is ideally suited for individuals seeking hands-on experience in development/fundraising.
  • The internship duration may vary depending on academic requirements and organizational needs.
  • Preferred experience working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Prolonged periods were sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • The employee needs to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance; stoop/bend and reach, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.
  • Dexterity requires writing and operating standard office machines such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and calculators.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive pay at $18.27-20.19 hourly for this non-exempt role.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
