Underwriting Analytics and Innovation Specialist (Commercial P&C)(Hybrid or Remote) (Biotech)

We are recruiting for an Underwriting Analytics and Innovation Specialist to join our team.  This role could be hybrid if near a local office or can sit remote from most locations in the U.S.   

Position Summary:

Analytical specialist who leverages advanced data analysis to uncover patterns and drive underwriting decisions. Develops and delivers data-driven tools and insights that support field execution, enhance capacity management, and improve portfolio performance. Works closely with Underwriting, IT, and business partners to create impactful analytics solutions that align with organizational objectives and policyholder needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Field Technical Underwriting to align priorities, share insights, and support tools and strategies that enhance underwriting performance and field effectiveness.

  • Collect, structure, and integrate data from multiple sources, applying advanced analytics to inform underwriting decisions and support strategic business objectives.

  • Monitor and analyze key underwriting metrics—including risk distribution and exposure concentration—to assess portfolio performance, identify trends, and support strategic and operational decision-making.

  • Develop innovative statistical solutions and provide real-time oversight of tool functionality and data integrity, resolving issues promptly to ensure reliable analytics and enable effective field underwriting execution. 

  • Design, develop, and implement innovative tools, dashboards, and reports that leverage internal and predictive data to support underwriting processes and decisions at both the desk and leadership levels, driving efficiency, consistency, and portfolio performance. 

  • Translate complex analyses into clear insights and visualizations, partnering with analytics teams to integrate predictive models and refine underwriting feedback. 

  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders across business units to gather data needs and deliver insights that support line of business reviews, state-level planning, strategic catastrophe management, and capacity planning initiatives.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align processes with technology systems, ensuring optimal integration, adoption and alignment with organizational goals.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent work-related experience.

  • 5 years of experience working in a data or analytics role preferably in an insurance-based environment

  • Insurance designations such as CPCU/CRM/CIC preferred.

  • Experience in insurance or related fields with exposure to underwriting, claims, or analytics functions.

  • Proven experience in data architecture, analytics, and visualization, leveraging tools such as Qlik Sense, Power Query, SQL, SAS, etc.  

  • Skilled in designing and implementing data model visualizations, optimizing data workflows, and translating complex datasets into actionable business insights.

  • Proficient in process mapping, workflow automation, and identifying data-driven process improvements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity and assess multiple data sources.     

  • Demonstrated curiosity and eagerness to explore innovative solutions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

  • Capable of supporting cross-functional teams and contributing to strategic discussions through well-grounded analytical input.
