Quality Manager - Springfield and Fort Scott (Manufacturing)

Timken Belts, located in Springfield, MO, is searching for a Quality Engineer.

The Plant Quality Manager is responsible for driving excellence in product quality and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across our Springfield belts manufacturing facility. This position serves as the primary point of contact for customer quality-related concerns, implements robust quality management systems, and ensures compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Quality Management:
    • Act as the primary contact for customers on quality-related matters, resolving issues within the parameters established by the company.
    • Review customer complaints and identify areas of focus to prevent recurrence of problems.
    • Prepare regular quality performance reports, presenting findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Quality System:
    • Develop and implement inspection and sampling techniques, quality plans, flow diagrams, control plans, and in-process control procedures to ensure finished products meet customer requirements.
    • Implement and maintain documented quality systems that comply with ISO 9001.
    • Conduct internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications.
  • Process/Product Improvement and Continuous Improvement (CI):
    • Analyze plant non-conformance reports and recommend process or product improvements to address root causes and enhance quality performance.
    • Utilize tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, and FMEA to drive operational efficiency and reduce defects.
    • Lead quality and continuous improvement training programs for plant employees, integrating new techniques and methodologies into daily operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Act as a liaison between manufacturing, sales, and technical departments to establish quality standards and specifications for in-process and finished products across all Timken Belts manufacturing locations.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate and monitor the quality of incoming materials and resolve quality issues.
  • Supplier Quality Management:
    • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance to ensure the quality of incoming materials.
    • Work closely with suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement improvements.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead and develop the quality team, providing training and performance feedback.
    • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
    • Ensure plant employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain and improve quality standards.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field. Advanced certifications (e.g., CQE, CQA, Six Sigma Black Belt) are preferred.
    • Experience:
      • 5-7 years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in industrial products or automotive components.
      • Proven experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 or similar quality standards.
    • Skills:
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
      • Proficiency in quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, MSA, and control plans.
      • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
    • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with manufacturing processes for rubber products (belts, hoses, tires, etc.) is a plus.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and complete necessary production forms. Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and/or customers.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables; problem solving ability.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands/arms. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear at conversational level, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Moving/lifting greater than 50 pounds requires assistance from another employee or a lifting device/hoist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    Required Personal Protective Equipment

    Employee is required to wear proper safety eyewear, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes at all times while on the plant floor.
