Controls Engineer Technician (Engineering)



Job Summary

Neenah Foundry is seeing a detail-oriented and innovative Controls Technician to join our team and support the design, maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial automation systems within a high-output manufacturing environment. This position offers the opportunity to apply your programming expertise and critical thinking skills to optimize production systems and support critical plant operations.

The Controls Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining industrial automation systems to ensure optimal plant operations. Utilizing a solid foundation in PLC programming and industrial control systems, this role involves troubleshooting, modifying, and optimizing equipment and processes. Working under the direction of the Controls Group Manager, the technician will monitor control interfaces (FactoryTalk, PanelView), interpret PLC logic and schematics, and collaborate with maintenance and production teams to address technical issues.

  • Utilize programming skills, knowledge, and creativity to solve problems associated with production and project tasks.
  • Work under the guidance and direction of the Controls Group Manager
  • Monitor plant production control systems on FactoryTalk client interfaces and PanelView displays.
  • Interpret PLC logic to assist Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance and Production Personnel with troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Interpret Electrical Drawings and Hydraulic Schematics to assist Maintenance when troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with plant personnel to troubleshoot, repair, and install equipment.
  • Assist with commissioning, preventative maintenance, emergency response, consulting, repair and technical direction of plant equipment and processes.
  • Adherent to programming and electrical standards
  • Analyze existing project code and develop modifications to meet process requirements!
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with Management, Supervision, Maintenance, and Plant personnel.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of programming code and its application in automated industrial processes
  • Critical thinking with exceptional critical thinking skills, able to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Ability to work in high output environment.

This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas. Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree focused on PLC Programming and 0-5 years experience.
  • Proficient in Rockwell software (RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, FactoryTalk Historian SE, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager)
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages (Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram)
  • Knowledge of drives and motor controls (ABB, SEW Eurodrive, AB)
  • Knowledge of motion control programming (ABB, SEW Eurodrive, AB)
  • Ethernet IP Networking

Physical Requirements

 

  • Sedentary work 50%
  • Dynamic interface with manufacturing equipment
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds.
  • Capable of navigating steps and ladders to reach elevations of plant areas.

The worker must be able to access, analyze, and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's operations.

There are no travel requirements for this position.
