FOOD SERVICE WORKER (Food Services)



Job Title: Food Service Worker
Department: Dining Services
Reports To: Food Service Supervisor / Director of Dining Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Full-Time 

Position Summary:

The Food Service Worker is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the preparation, serving, and cleaning of food service operations to ensure quality service and sanitation in the college dining facilities. This position supports a positive dining experience by providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve food items according to standardized recipes and instructions.

  • Set up and restock food stations with proper food items, utensils, and supplies.

  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and dish machines safely and efficiently.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and utensils.

  • Follow proper food handling procedures to ensure food safety and compliance with health regulations.

  • Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food and supplies.

  • Serve food in a courteous and professional manner, adhering to portion control guidelines.

  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, counters, and other dining surfaces after meal service.

  • Dispose of waste and manage recycling and compost materials according to campus policy.

  • Follow all college and departmental safety protocols and procedures.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior experience in food service or customer service preferred but not required.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform physical tasks related to food service.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices.

  • ServSafe or similar food handler certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).


Work Schedule:

  • Variable shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Must be flexible and reliable in attendance and scheduling.


Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, and crowded kitchen environments.

  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions throughout the shift.
