IT Systems Administrator III (Finance)

The County of Riverside's Office of The District Attorney has an opportunity for an IT Systems Administrator III position located in Riverside. This role will involve strategic planning, architectural design, security, cost optimization, and ensuring that cloud infrastructure meets both current and future business needs.

The selected candidate will engage in work related to infrastructure, Microsoft 365 administration, and assisting with the ongoing operational aspects of the Exchange Online E-mail environment. The selected candidate will also act as a lead over important and ongoing technical projects. Additionally, the incumbent will administer Windows servers and storage systems as well as monitor and troubleshoot system performance, providing solutions and recommending measures to improve or correct performance.

The IT Systems Administrator III is the lead level classification in the IT Systems Administrator series and reports to a supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents in this class exercise a high degree of independent judgement, provide project oversight to subordinate staff, and perform the most complex assignments that require extensive knowledge and proficiency.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience with Windows AD directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, Windows Server environments, and Hyper-V.
  • Hands-on experience with Entra\Azure administration (Exchange Online and OnPrem, Defender XDR Suite, Compliance, Endpoint Manager\Intune, One Drive, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience running System Center products.
  • Demonstrated experience administering Windows servers as well as hands on experience with storage systems.
  • Experience managing complex patching deployments of various systems.
  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

The Riverside County Office of the District Attorney represents the People of the State of California in all criminal matters arising in Riverside County. This Office is committed to ensuring that justice is done and the community is protected. This Office prosecutes the guilty, safeguards the innocent, and protects victims and their rights.• Determine hardware and operating system resource requirements.

• Plan and implement hardware installation and upgrades; maintain physical technical infrastructure, directories, and system documentation; plan and implement operating system and application upgrades.

• Monitor resource use, and tailor and tune to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

• Conduct analysis of network and system management, capacity planning, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.

• Develop utility programs and shell scripts (e.g., backup, security); evaluate software; assist with application testing.

• Develop system security and firewall requirements based on industry standards and management preferences; plan and implement systems backups, coordinating recoveries, including offsite disaster recovery.

• Research, evaluate, and test proposed products, product versions, and systems solutions; coordinate design, installation, and support activities with application vendors.

• Evaluate conformance of system security and database integration requirements with County standards.Education: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university, preferably with coursework in computer science, computer information systems, data processing, information management, or a related field to the assignment. (Additional IT job-related experience may substitute for the required education on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full time experience.)

Experience: Four years of successful journey level experience with system adminstration for Windows AD directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, Windows Server environments, and Hyper-V or with Entra\Azure administration(Exchange Online and OnPrem, Defender XDR Suite, Compliance, Endpoint Manager\Intune, One Drive, etc.), one year of which included either lead level duties or technically advanced IT job-related work. (One year as an IT Systems Administrator II will satisfy the one year of lead or technically advanced experience requirement.)

License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.

Knowledge of : The principles, methods, and techniques used in the course of work for the IT Systems Administrator series; principles and techniques applied to IT devices, applications, and systems; principles of organization and administration; principles of documentation and recordkeeping, storage and retrieval is preferred for higher-level classes.

Ability to : Gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; resolve technical problems and innovate more efficient use of IT resources; perform systems analysis work and problem solving; interpret and follow written and oral instructions; prepare concise reports and documents; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, customers, other employees, and the public; communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels.

Required IT-Related Skills : Support of mainframe, stand-alone or single platform computer environment; use of OS software; use of system management software; use of back up and recovery utilities.

Preferred IT-Related Skills : Support of a networked, multi-user, or single platform mid-range (e.g., UNIX/NT/VMS) system; use of OEM, third party tools, and native scripts/languages to perform upgrades, tuning and security administration.
