COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.

  • Engineer II Pay Range: $88,000 - $98,000
  • Engineer I Pay Range: $80,000 - $85,000

Join Our Seams & AFC Support team as an Engineer I or II !

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking an Engineer I or II to join our Seams & AFC Support team. This position plays a key role in supporting critical systems, applications, and modeling tools that ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the bulk electric system across regional boundaries.

As a subject matter expert, you will help manage and enhance processes related to Available Flowgate Capacity (AFC) calculations, Market-to-Market coordination, Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), FERC Tariff compliance, and NERC/NAESB standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about energy systems, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to contribute to the stability and innovation of the electric grid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Seams & AFC systems and tools.
  • Analyze and improve AFC and Market-to-Market processes to optimize transmission usage.
  • Ensure compliance with FERC Orders, NERC Standards, and NAESB practices.
  • Develop and maintain operations procedures and documentation.
  • Support internal teams and coordinate with stakeholders and industry groups.
  • Collaborate on tool development and special projects with IT and management.
  • Maintain accurate records and support audit and regulatory processes.

 To be successful as the Engineer I or II, we're looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:
    • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),
    • Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Engineer I - No experience necessary
  • Engineer II - Two (2) years of job-related work experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Motivated to take appropriate expedited action when required
  • Initiative to stay abreast of industry developments
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of individuals with diverse interests when resolving problems
  • Strong inter-personal and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred:

  • Experience in power system engineering, transmission planning or related disciplines
  • Working knowledge of the CMP process
  • Knowledgeable of tools such as the EMS, IDC, MFC, CROW,  Market System, M2M,  or OASIS
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, SPP Criteria, SPP OATT and SPP OATT Business Practices
  • Working knowledge of PSS/E/TARA or power flow programs
  • An advanced degree or professional certification (such as a PE or NERC Certification)
  • Experience with coding and automation

     

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type, Location, and Hours:

This is a full-time, hybrid onsite position based in Little Rock, Arkansas. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires minimal travel (0—15%).
