Director of Alumni Relations - Natural Sciences & Math (Finance)



Department: Dean, Natural Sciences & Math Salary: $56,800 - $64,600
Description:

Responsible for the strategic planning, conceptualization, and execution of all internal and external events for an assigned college.

1. Manages, plans, and implements programs in collaboration with community and alumni partners including but not limited to: Advancement, University of Houston Alumni Association, Student Organizations, etc.
2. Manages events and activities on and off campus such as class reunions, alumni-student mentoring programs, receptions, award dinners and ceremonies, networking events, tailgates, etc. to develop relationships between the college and its alumni and increase participation in college activities.
3. Maintains and expands various alumni programs through the development and implementation of new programming based on the missions of the College and its Alumni Association.
4. Serves as primary liaison between University of Houston Alumni Association (in relation to assigned organizations) and the College Alumni Association.
5. Monitors and manages budgets of programs, special events and alumni/donor databases.
6. Negotiates and supervise all decisions made with vendors and manages contracts, on-site event logistics, and the selection of on-site event staff and volunteers.
7. Works closely with the Director of Communication to create and implement marketing strategies for specific constituent bases.
8. Supervises and develops input for the creation of alumni communications such as newsletters, websites, social media, flyers, and invitations.
9. Collaborates with alumni leaders to resolve issues facing constituent groups and the College's Alumni Association members through researching issues and recommending possible solutions.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Leads a multifaceted alumni and donor engagement program which collaborates with the alumni association and individual departments within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to design and implement programs that engage the colleges' closest constituents through annual fund liaison activities, special events, networking and volunteer opportunities.

Job Duties:

1. Creates, plans and implements programs in collaboration with community and alumni partners including but not limited to: Advancement, University of Houston Alumni Association, NSM Alumni Association, departmental alumni associations, NSM Student Organizations, and academic departments.
2. Plans and manages events and activities such as back to school breakfast, class reunions, alumni-student mentoring programs, receptions, award dinners and ceremonies, networking events, tailgates, and external advisory board meeting.
3. Maintains and expands various alumni and donor programs through the development and implementation of new programing based on the missions of the NSM Alumni Association and College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
4. Serves as primary liaison between University of Houston Alumni Association in relation to assigned organizations and NSM Alumni Association.

Job Requirements:

Education:
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Certification/Licensing: None

Work Complexity: Requires a broad knowledge of principles and practices within a professional field. Work is very non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables.

Change in Knowledge: The knowledge and/or technology used in the job changes periodically; occasional study and training is required.

Problem Solving: Requires in-depth analysis to interpret and evaluate obscure/vague information in the development of new solutions for complex technical and/or managerial problems. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in comparing and recommending numerous solutions. Problems may be atypical within the unit. Analytical ability and inductive thinking are required in extensively adapting policies, procedures and methods to fit unusual or complex situation.

Inside Department: Considerable.
Outside Department: Moderate.
Outside University: Moderate.

Judgment: Requires judgment to set priorities, evaluate results, coordinate work with others, and so forth. Duties include different and related processes and methods.

Supervision: Involves scheduling, supervision and evaluation of work as a manager or equivalent. Acts as focal point for recommending hiring/termination decisions, performance management, salary increases and disciplinary actions and/or budget management. Responsibility of this job can include a large functional department or a smaller diverse area.

Internal Service: Reviews effectiveness of customer service within dept
External Service: Solves unusual customer problems

Environmental Conditions
Working conditions: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
Physical Effort: Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
Physical Risk: Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
