Human Services Program Specialist (Finance)



This position typically reports to a Human Services Practitioner, Program Director, Assistant Program Director, faculty member or other appropriate administrator. A Human Services Program Specialist can be assigned to a variety of settings in which primary functions involve supporting the program goals and/or the work of a higher level Human Services Practitioner. In some settings, this position may be assigned a workload that has direct client contact on a regular basis. This is a non-exempt position which combines program operational and caseworker duties with administrative functions requiring a high level of interaction, and judgment in applying policies and procedures, conducting topical research, and/or responding to emergent client or program needs.This position requires a high school diploma and four years of related experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

  • Maintains resources and does library and internet research for a program area (i.e. developmental disabilities, autism, special education, HIV/AIDS, child migrant educational opportunities, community-based supports, changes in laws and other policy at the local, state and national level).
  • Responds to internal and external requests for research and information on specific topics related to program. Requires researching a number of sources both inside and beyond the program.
  • Responds to calls related to human services programs, including behavioral health needs, and provides information or referrals as appropriate.
  • Participates in community organizations to benefit the work of the program.
  • Responds to calls from families or professionals concerning client needs. Provides information, general advice and an overview of services provided by the program.
  • Coordinates data collection and activities of the project, including, baseline post-test and follow-up assessments. Compiles data reports by scheduled due dates.
  • Conducts required assessments including interviews, standardized instruments and tests, checklists and observations; enters data into central database system.
  • Assesses client's level of case management needed based on client's functioning and needs; develops plan, sets objectives such as health referrals, completion of GED, vocational rehabilitation, housing assistance, community resources, etc.
  • Participates in project team meetings, prepares presentations for conferences and participates in writing final reports.
