Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Neurobiology and Anatomy (Finance)



The Mohan lab at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is seeking a creative and independent postdoctoral researcher to join our efforts in understanding the neuronal circuit mechanisms for sensorimotor control using state-of-the-art approaches including in-vivo widefield and two-photon imaging, multiunit electrophysiology, optogenetic manipulations, anatomical circuit mapping, computational modelling, machine learning and AI.

The candidate will join a newly established lab as one of its earliest members, offering a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the lab from the ground up. They will gain hands-on experience in setting up advanced experimental systems, designing novel behavioral experiments, and contributing to the foundational research direction of the lab and present their work at various local, national and international conferences.

Who should apply?

Candidates with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, or related fields and an interest in understanding the neural circuit mechanisms underlying the transformation of sensation into action are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have experience with in-vivo optical or electrophysiological recording techniques, as well as proficiency in analyzing such data using MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages. Additional expertise in molecular biology techniques, computational modeling, or machine learning is considered a plus. Candidates should have a record of publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles utilizing these approaches.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
3. Reads and evaluates literature.
4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5. Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Doctoral/Terminal Degree

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
