Job Summary

The Junior Test Technician will report directly to the Test Operations Manager and report to work between the hours of 7 AM to 3:30 PM.

Junior Test Technician (JTT) – 1st Shift

If this sounds like you, the AMUS Test Department is looking to add a Junior Test Technician to our growing team of leaders in Power System testing, repair, & diagnosis.

This Technician role will focus primarily on Breaker Injection Testing & Databar Product Testing to support our growing business and customer demand. The candidate will learn the method/process of injection testing, method/process of testing the Databar product line, use of related testing equipment, industry-standard techniques, & safety procedures.

Depending on job performance, knowledge growth, and professional development, this position may have future opportunities for growth in other areas of the Test Department such as Test Technician 1.

Job Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Perform Primary Injection Testing on Low Voltage circuit breakers, ACBs & switches, including Square D (Schneider Electric), ABB, LS Electric, etc.
  • Correct use of tools and testing equipment including Meggers, digital multimeters, Hi-Pot testers, Primary & Secondary injection sets
  • Work safely around Split-Phase 208, 415VAC, and various Current injection levels up to 2000+ Amps.
  • Properly utilize and demonstrate safe usage of PPE when operating within the Test Lab.
  • Ability to read and interpret SWIs, diagrams, trip curves, schematics, and setting tables.
  • Excellent attention to detail and awareness of all Test Department Safety procedures.
  • Utilize documented testing procedures to safely test, diagnose, and verify the Factory Standard tripping curves and specifications of low voltage MCCBs.
  • Maintain a professional work attitude individually and with senior Test personnel while managing time to meet daily goals for Test Department throughput.
  • Become familiar with Micrologic systems, Ekip trip unit systems, types of breakers, and NETA testing standards.
  • Learn and utilize Ecostruxure Power Commission and Test Department computer systems to connect to & communicate with various breaker interfaces.
  • Record Testing results in digital-format FATs while keeping a running log of all tested breaker serial numbers. Data collection of daily testing output is sent to the server.
  • Develop equipment knowledge of the Databar product line & all test equipment.
  • Perform testing & functional verification of Tapoff Boxes, Endfeeds, and Databar alongside senior test technicians.
  • Develop working knowledge of Databar metering, power systems, and local networks.
  • Lower-level testing tasks such as Hipot testing & Bay setup.
  • Kneeling, crouching, stooping, & standing for the extent of workday.
  • Frequent lifting of products up to & possibly exceeding 70+lbs.
  • All other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred minimum of an Associate degree in an electrical discipline, electro-mechanical training from trade school, apprenticeship, or Armed Forces.

  • Must possess an understanding of fundamental electrical and mechanical testing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of power systems, power circuit breakers, and circuits.
  • Must be able to correctly use tools and testing equipment including Meggers, digital multimeters, Hi-Pot testers, ohmmeters, primary & secondary injection sets, etc.
  • Working knowledge of computers, software systems, and data collection.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and on a dynamic schedule.
  • Must be able to work & communicate effectively with a diverse team.
