Genetics Counselor (Cardiology) (Finance)



Nemours is seeking a Genetics Counselor to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.

Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve; we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region.

The Genetic Counselor will provide genetic counseling under the direction of respective physician.

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Genetic Counselor for the Division of Genetics at NCH Orlando.
  • Reviews medical records and triages new patient referrals.
  • Obtains medical histories.
  • Obtains family histories.
  • Coordinates special studies.
  • Assures test results are available prior to appointments.
  • Provides genetic counseling.
  • Maintains comprehensive and accurate medical records.
  • Assists communication with referring physicians.
  • Assists with inpatient consultations including telemedicine consultations between the medical geneticist and NCH intensive care units.
  • Assists with literature reviews and provides patient support materials.
  • Participates in the development of programs to provide genetic support for other subspecialty clinics.
  • Participates in educational activities directed toward patients, health professionals, and the public.
  • Provides genetic services as contracted by Nemours children's Clinic.
  • Participates in administrative and committee duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required to accomplish the patient care, education, and research missions of the Nemours Children's Clinic.
  • Assists in obtaining insurance authorization for special genetic tests.
  • Supervises genetic counselor assistant(s).
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the Nemours Delaware team and acts as liaison/ facilitates communication between Delaware and Orlando genetics divisions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling accredited program required (students graduating this spring 2020 are eligible to apply).
  • National Board Certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling required (or Board Eligible status for new graduates).
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS required upon hire.
